YouTube -- You Have the Power!

Did you know that you have the power when it comes to sharing YouTube videos? We are one of the lucky school districts that does not have YouTube blocked -- this is common practice in many school districts. While YouTube might have some questionable content for kids to be watching, it also is an undeniably valuable resource for teaching and learning, whether it is to introduce a topic, supplement a lesson, use for slipped learning, or as part of an assessment. But here is one important thing to remember when it comes to sharing YouTube content with your students: you have the power!

Here is what I mean by that: YouTube filters a little differently for teachers than it does students. When you are logged in to your school account and you are on YouTube, you should also see a blue bar with a white button underneath a video you'd like to share with your students. The button will either say, "Approve" or "Remove". If it says, "Approve", you need to click that button in order for your students to see it if you're including it in something the kids will need to access on their own -- if it's in a slide deck, in Google Classroom, part of a Google Form, or emailed to them. Check out the screen shots below to see these buttons!
